On August 20, 1999, four aspiring females, Doris Au-Yeung, Annie Valaya Booncharoen, Krysten Cheng and Wendy Lam united as one to succeed and bring to campus an organization that embraces leadership, service, cultural diversity, academic excellence, and sisterhood. Through their drive and determination Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. was thus established at the City University of New York at Bernard M. Baruch College.
With the leadership of our four founding mothers, the establishment of Kappa Phi Lambda has since then flourished, expanding exponentially to include members who believes in our mission.
We pride ourselves in our benevolent charitable purposes that benefit our greater society today, to ensure a better tomorrow. Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. strives incessantly to make a difference. It is important for us to reach our hands to the needy whenever possible. We are proud sponsors of our philanthropic
organization: Save the Children, an effort to assist children in the United States with monetary donations who isn't as fortunate as most of us. We are annual volunteers of the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk event every Fall and are also happy to say that we devote ourselves to the cause of March of Dimes.
As giving our dedication to the community is important in building character within our sorority, it is also important to educate as well. Every semester, we host educational cultural workshops on campus aimed to educate our public about issues that concerns us today, as Asians, females, minorities, students, etc. These workshops are a vital part of our organization, since we advocate and emphasize cultural diversity.
While we do so much, in the midst of all the events, Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. also serves as a tool for our personal educational careers as we continue to achieve academic excellence in our studies. We work together to make the college experience much more successful and memorable.
The most essential part of this establishment is our members, whom we proudly call Sisters. Each sister is a prize, unique in her own ways, as they are loved and appreciated for who she is, and what she brings to this sorority.
With the ideals set forth by the founding mothers of Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. from the University of Binghamton etched in our hearts, we close the book of an old century, and turn to a fresh new page. We give much heartfelt thanks and with admiration we extend our love to the beautiful founders of Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority -- Elizabeth Choi, Karen Eng, Rei Hirasawa, Hee Cho Moon, Chae Yoo Park, Samantha Somchanhmavong, and Connie Yang.
Since our founding in March of 1995, we have expanded all throughout the East and Midwest, with 17 chapters and
8 colonies, becoming the fastest growing Asian-interest cultural sorority in the nation.
